The Gazette and Daily, York, Tuesday Morning, June 13, 1950 33 ANNOUNCEMENTS Army in Chicago; and the follow- 9 Deaths And Funeral; Bus Fares Rise In Lancaster And Columbia Harrisburg, June 12 UP) The Public Utility commission today authorized the Conestoga Transportation Lancaster, to increase bus fares in Lancaster and Columbia, effective June 18. Under the new schedule, bus fares will go from 8 to 10 cents and from five tokens for 35 cents to three for 25 cents. The vote for the fare bost was 4-1 with commissioner John B. Conly, Pittsburgh, dissenting. Suburban cash fares also will be increased in amounts ranging from two to five cents depending on distance travelled.

School tickets will sell for five instead of six for 25 cents. City Amusement Tax Hits Ail-Time Low Ci amusement tax dropped to an all-time low in May, bringing the city only $5,347.15. Krone Miss Treva R. Krone, daughter of the late Harvey and Sadie Weaver Krone, 561 Linden avenue, died at York hospital at 10:40 a.m. yesterday. She was 44. Surviving are three sisters, Miss Burdella A.

May Steel Production Sets Ail-Time Record New York, June 12 UP) The nation's steel makers produced more steel last month than ever before in the history of the country. The American Iron Steel In- stitute said today the record high output in May amounted to 038 tons of ingots and steel for castings. That was 147,000 tons larger than the previous monthly record set in jviarcn, iaiy. AUTOS COLLIDE No injuries resulted when two cars collided at 6:45 p.

Mrs. Cora Bortnpr fiS nifn Rock RD 1, received a cut scalp; Stuart Stiff ler, fractured his left wrist, and Kenneth Shuhart, 22, nad a long cut on his left leg. Both men live in the borough. All at York hospital. Details of the accident were unavailable.

Hospital officials said it happened in the borough. The hospital also treated Terry Mitzell, 555 Ogontz averrue, who was hit by a car and was bruised on both knees and his chest He was discharged. Neither Spring Garden township nor. city police had any record of the accident. Ivan E.

Miller, 6, of 478 Yale street, had the tip of his left index finger amputated at the hospital after catching it in hedge shears. Gregory Brandt, 3, of 1323 Hill street, whose left eyebrow was cut when hit by a baseball bat, was treated at the hospital and then discharged. York Youth Sued For $15,682 In Accident Case A 70-year-old Glen Rock pedes- years ago, yesterday brought suit tor $15,682.21 damages in Common Pleas court against the driver. Ira C. Hershey, plaintiff in the action filed by his attorney, Palmer C.

Borner, charged Robert Stough, 19, of 918 East Boundary avenue, with negligence. Hershey said-he was kept away from his work as a plasterer for 32 weeks by his injuries which included a broken left knee, concussion and a cut of the right eyelid. Hospital and medical expenses totaled $606.21, Hershey asserts. The Stough car hit him, Hershey said, just before he was about to step onto the curb after crossing Duke street at College avenue. 18 Postal Horses Die In Phila.

Blaze Philadelphia, June 12 UP) Eighteen horses, rented by the government to haul parcel post delivery wagons in midcity, were burned to death today in a fire that swept the rear of a South Philadelphia livery stable. The horses, trapped in their stalls, had no chance to escape. Firemen, however, saved 26 nthpr horses from the stable operated by Hurwitz, which rents the horses and wagons to the post office department, More than 80 residents were routed from their homes during the two-hour blaze. Among the residents were 13 living in a court at the rear of the stable They were evacuated by firemen when flames threatened their homes. Danish Scientist Urges New Try At Atom Pact Copenhagen, Denmark, June 12 UP) Prof.

Niels Bohr, Danish atom scientist, said today he had sent an open letter to the United Nations urging renewed efforts for reaching agreement on international control of atomic energy. Bohr, a Nobel prize winner who worked with British and American atom scientists during the war, said the main purpose of his letter is to stress that progress in atomic research "make absolutely necessary a frankness between nations to avoid the deadly threats against civilization." Police Arrest Yorker For Setting Father's Car On Fire After Argument City police arrested a York man early yesterday and delivered him to Baltimore county police authorities to face a charge of arson brought against him by his father. Arrested was Robert Eugene Wolgamuth, 36, of 108 North Broad street. His father, Irvin O. Wolgamuth, of Parkton, signed information against him, charging that the son set fire to his car after an argument in Parkton Saturday evening.
